What Is Causing My Onychomycosis?
Like most fungal infections of the toes or feet—including athlete’s foot—onychomycosis is typically caught by going barefoot in areas that are warm, damp, and frequented by many different individuals.
This condition can also be caused by an increased amount of foot perspiration, especially if you’re wearing shoes that don’t let your feet breathe properly. Over time, the constant exposure to moisture can cause a fungal infection to begin growing.
A third common cause for onychomycosis is old age, as diminished circulation in the feet can lead to the development of this particular condition.
How Does the Laser Treatment Work?
The Lunula Laser is an exciting offering in that it’s both the first and only FDA-approved laser treatment for this toenail fungus. The treatment itself is surprisingly simple and easy, considering how effective it is.
During your treatment, you’ll simply insert your foot into the machine, which looks like a small box with a display on the top of it. Once the machine is calibrated and active, you’ll sit comfortably while it does its work.
You’ll feel no pain or heat, thanks to the low wavelengths and frequencies that are used. After about 12 minutes, your treatment will be over. Full results are typically seen after a series of four treatments.
We’ll work with you to set up follow-up appointments so that you can fully address your toenail fungus and get back to enjoying clean, healthy, clear toenails. We can also advise you on proper footwear and hygiene to prevent the issue from reoccurring in the future.
